Bob's Clam Hut, Kittery,
Maine. The ambience at Bob's isn't what
you'd call idyllic. There is no ocean vista, but rather views of a noisy road
directly across from a cluster of factory outlet stores. The shack itself is a rather gaudy little
dinner. But Bob’s Clam Hut is not to be underestimated. In fact, Bob’s once made Forbes Magazine’s 40
favorite restaurants in the United States, being referred to as a "seaside,
roadside Nirvana." You can dine
either from the dashboard of your car, indoors at utilitarian tables and
counter, or at one of Bob's blue-checked picnic tables.
Bob’s have a heavy focus on fried fair, including a vast array of fried seafood baskets and award winning fried clams. For lobster, they don't offer shore dinners but they do offer lobster stew, a lobster basket (with fries) and lobster rolls. Their lobster rolls come warm or cold – with ample meat, just the right amount of dressing (be it mayo or butter) and are served on a toasted split-top bun. Bob’s is BYOB.
