Last week I had the pleasure of speaking with Dan “The Lobster Man” Zawacki, founder and owner of the first live lobster home delivery service, Lobstergram. Dan's been shipping lobsters to consumers for almost 30 years and has one of those ‘I started my business out of a garage’ type stories which makes his whole operation that much more charming.
Dan and I had a great talk about what inspires people from
all corners of America to order live Maine lobster. Often orders are placed by adventurous folks
looking for a unique gift or foodies planning a special dinner party. These customers know that lobsters are a product of
their environment and value the freshness that comes with overnight shipping as well as the uniqueness of the experience. One customer even used a Lobstergram to
propose to his girlfriend. The brave man shipped Dan the engagement ring which
was then placed in the bottom of the Lobstergram package and sent to the
unsuspecting lady. She said yes.
Dan has a warehouse right in Biddeford Maine and a great
variety of products which customers can peruse online. You can even purchase gift
certificates which are handy when you want to gift someone live lobster but aren’t
sure of when they’ll be home to receive it.
Little touches like bibs, crackers and clarified butter are included in
his Lobstergrams and add an extra bit of Maine charm. Dan also has a very competent customer
service team to talk novices through the purchase process and an enviable list
of high profile customers, from Robert Redford and Rachel Ray to Snoop Dogg
(aka Snoop Lion for those of you young enough to appreciate the nuance).
If your goal is to order live lobster directly from a Maine
lobster fisherman, Dan isn’t your man but if your main concern is customer
service and quality, Lobstergram is a great option. 100% satisfaction guaranteed!
Finally, please note that I've added some advertising from Lobstergram to my blog. I just wanted to disclose that given the above review of the company.
