A huge congratulations to Robert's Maine Grill for winning the Editor's Choice award for best lobster roll at Tasting Table's 2014 Lobster Roll Rumble in NYC. This year was the fifth year that Tasting Table have held the Lobster Roll Rumble and each year Maine has represented well in the competition.
In 2009 and 2010 Luke's Lobster nabbed the title of best lobster roll at the rumble. The owner of Luke's is from Maine. His family are in the lobster industry and Luke knows his way around a lobster boat as well as how to make a winning lobster roll.
In 2011 and 2012, The Clam Shack, based in Kennebunk, was crowned best lobster roll. They are a Maine institution and have perfected the art of a fresh, simple and succulent roll.
Robert's Maine Grill was a new contender in this year's Lobster Roll Rumble competition and they clearly hit the ball out of the park. Their owner, Michael Landgarten described their roll as "no tricks, straight up mayonnaise, a little seasoning, a little lemon" with "the lobster meat really shining through." Robert's also have 'lobster sliders' on their menu - described as lobster, mayo and herbs on a buttermilk biscuit - which look amazing.
This year's Fan Favorite at the Lobster Roll Rumble was Baltimore-based Thames Street Oyster House. Their roll has been described as fresh cracked, butter-poached, cold-water Maine lobster on a buttered split-top bun. Yum!
